On Sunday, I had the unique pleasure of joining with a group of photographers for Gray Photography's In-Camera Workshop on Shooting & Post. As if having Zach and Jody as two of our closest friends (and former wedding photographers) wasn't enough, I've interned and assisted with them, and while I have been unofficially taught along the way - they have now officially been my teachers!
Despite the constant rain, myself and about two handfuls of other hobbyists/amateurs/pros braved the weather for the in-class and out-of-class portions of the workshop. In class in their downtown Nashville studio, Zach and Jody walked us through many of the basics and must-knows of shooting in-camera (so as to avoid unnecessary time spent editing off-camera) including getting correct exposure/setting up lighting/composing the right shots. Later, they took us out for some on-location shooting with a couple they had hired to model for us. And not only that, but we got to play quite a bit with off-camera flash which was rather exciting for me! It was a perfect practical-application accompaniment to an already enriching class session. Later we walked through a bit of Zach's perspectives on and systems for post-processing (i.e. editing) in Lightroom. Incredibly enlightening!
My time with the other photographers and with the Grays (and Cliff, who came in as our assistant for the second portion of the workshop) was a bright spot in a dreary weekend.
I'd say this image I grabbed during our shoot sums that feeling up well.
