You should probably just discredit this post because of my partiality to the subjects of this entry. But then again, maybe you shouldn't. Because for a million reasons, this post means the world to me. It's the kind of reminder I think most of us photographers need to keep us in check and help us to remember that we all start somewhere and in the rise to whatever it is we hope to achieve, that place of beginning - of excitement - of stirring - and of the understanding of a gift - they all have one of a few sources.
A source that one day other people get the chance to see, recognize, and then the floodgates come seemingly open and before you know it - something you love to do becomes part of your life's work.
For that reason, I will always love photographing the Bentons.

First of all, they're probably the most attractive set of humans in one collective family that I know - both in looks and personality. Second of all, they've given me more referrals than I could ever dream to hope for. Thirdly, they're where my business truly began. Fourth, and most importantly of all, they're my family.

I think sometimes photographers are afraid to shoot and show-off their work which might include their family. But why? Why do we do that or do it and cover up our connections to the subjects we shoot? Shouldn't we be most proud of our ability to capture those most familiar, most comfortable, and most likely NOT to listen when given direction (take my darling nephew Parker - the blonde - as a perfect example).

So it's with great pride that I share this session with you. And I hope you'll take pride in all of you work, as well, family or not. Because all of it matters.

Hi Kristine,
I met you last year at Zach Gray's birthday party, and I found your photography site through their website and have been following you for sometime. Your blogs are great, not only in the pictures you share but also the words too. These are amazing photos, but I also really appreciate the message to this entry. Thank you. - Ashley Goins
